GAC Shipping SA is looking for candidates for the role of Senior Marine Rep / Operations Manager to be based in Richards Bay. Could it be you?


Job Description

  • Perform the duties of an Operations Manager and Marine Representative.
  • Oversee the complete operation and ensure the smooth running of the office with all deadlines and targets met.
  • Assist with the sales and business development of the office to ensure steady growth. This will require international travel to visit clients, as and when required.
  • Keep abreast of current industry trends, including changes in the Port of Durban.
  • Maintain contact with industry role-players and identify possible business opportunities for Management follow-up.
  • Assist with checking final Disbursement Accounts and ensure processed targets are achieved.
  • Manage and monitor the debtors list on an ongoing basis and pursue outstanding amounts for prompt settlement.
  • Assist with the preparation of enquiry replies, proforma disbursements and ensure correct tariffs are used.
  • Attend vessels on board where required and represent GAC to the best of your ability.
  • Regular and prompt daily communication daily to clients, vessels, local authorities and service providers.
  • Ensure that all relevant Group IT applications are fully utilised.
  • Assist fellow Operations staff wherever required.
  • Maintain the highest standard of service, including timely completion of all required documentation and responsibilities as per job description.

Job requirements

  • International marketing trips to see coal clients.
  • Relevant experience with an in-depth knowledge of port and ship operations.
  • Knowledge of handling cargo claims and strong expertise in handling coal vessels.
  • Leadership and managerial skills.
  • Customer service aptitude.
  • Above average communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Good inter-personal skills.
  • Organisational ability to multi-task and prioritise.
  • Good understanding of budget, profits & losses.
  • Management reporting and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
